Natural Treatments for Varicoceles

July 4, 2014 By //  by Whitney Young, ND

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum. It’s very similar to varicose veins in your legs.

Varicoceles are a common cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality, which can cause fertility.

Usually most varicoceles don’t need treatment, although some might require surgery.

Varicoceles usually occur on the left side, however, a varicocele in one testical can affect sperm production in both testicles.

If this is the cause of infertility for you, surgery may be an option but here are 2 more options for you.

L-carnitine was compared with surgery and with doing nothing. The improvement in pregnancy rates were: 60% surgery, 34.5% carnitine, and 18.7% controls. CoQ10 is also a very important nutrient for fertility. Daily treatment improved the sperm health of men with varicoceles in research studies.

If this is something that you or your partner has been diagnosed with, we can put together a treatment plan for them to improve your fertility and pregnancy success. Contact us for a free meet the doctor visit or to book your intake visit.

Varicocele related infertility

July 22, 2011 By //  by Whitney Young, ND

I came across a study that examined the effectiveness of Horse Chestnut in treating Varicocele-associated infertility in men.

While not as effective as surgery, it was still quite effective boasting a 55.7% improvement in sperm rate.  This is compared to 77.1% with surgery and 46.2% in the control group.

Ultrasound showed that the men in the herbal group had improved disease severity from mild to moderate with the greatest improvement seen in men with moderate Varicoceles.

Maybe worth a go before going under the knife.  I will note that this study was done over a period of two months – no instant changes here.
