ICSI is associated with higher birth defects

May 17, 2012 By //  by Whitney Young, ND

Many of my fertility patients are using artificial reproductive techniques (ART) like IVF, IUI, and ICSI.  The use of ICSI seems to be increasing as it has been producing better results.  This study suggests that parents-to-be using ART should think twice about ICSI.

The desire to be parents is strong and using ICSI eggs successfully will produce a normal child 90% of the time.  So does the increase risk really matter that much?
