Bubble-Wrapped Babies

April 11, 2018 By //  by Whitney Young, ND

17% of new moms are suffering from postpartum anxiety versus only 5% who are suffering from postpartum depression. This is at an all-time high!

So what can we do about it?

Here, I chat about some moms from my practice and my online mommy group Guiltless Grace.

There are 3 steps you can start to take to decrease your mommy worry.

  1. 100 Deep breaths a day – simple and safe strategy to start decreasing the stress
  2. Take it off – take things off your plate. You don’t have to be super mom or wonder woman and do it all. Your standards can change when you have a baby. You have so much more on your plate, so take some things off.
  3. Ask for Help – ask me for help – we can talk about supplements, diet and mommy mentoring strategies to help you feel sane again. Ask your friends and family for help. You don’t have to do it all.

If you have any questions, let me know. I’m here for you!

Talk soon,

Dr. Whitney

The first year after Steve died felt like a slow-m The first year after Steve died felt like a slow-moving, feet-stuck-in-mud search.

First a search for meaning. Why did this happen? What did we do to deserve this? What could I have done differently? What could Steve have done differently?

Then a search for something to take away the pain. What can I distract myself with? Another work project. Let's eat more chips because who cares? I'm going to pour myself another glass of wine. Where is Steve and can he come back?

Finally a search for people like me who "got it." I struggled so much at the beginning with feeling so alone. Feeling like I was the only person I knew who lost their spouse so young. Because I WAS!

But then one-by-one these amazing other widowed people came into my life. They became my rescue team. The people I said goodnight to because Steve wasn't there. The people who I could share the strange things of Steve's I kept because they had those things too.

I was so desperate for a group that understood me. And I was so lucky but also persistent. I found these people, but it wasn't by accident.

This is why I've created the Mommy Map Support Group. A group of moms struggling to create a new map for their lives in the middle of a global pandemic. Being with moms who get the highs and lows of motherhood. Being with moms who won't judge each other for the secret nighttime snacks that we don't share with our kids. Or for the yelling we did a bit too much of today.

I couldn't have survived without my group. You don't have to either. Join me and this group of wonderful and broken moms just like me and you.

Note - This group is for all moms. Married, single, divorced, widowed. Any mom who knows that they need support and they’re ready to grab it.

Check out my link in bio to register. Registration ends Monday.
Did you know the amount of bread you eat during pr Did you know the amount of bread you eat during pregnancy could be linked to your baby's risk of developing diabetes?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Risk of type 1 diabetes in babies increased proportionally with maternal gluten intake during pregnancy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Women with highest intake versus the lowest had double the risk of type 1 diabetes in their offspring. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So how much should you eat? This particular study recommended less than 7 grams a day of gluten. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What does that look like? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Well, there's about 2-2.5g of gluten in:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 slice of wheat-based bread⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
½ English muffin⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
½ cup wheat-based cereal⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
½ cup of cooked wheat-based pasta⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8-10 saltine crackers⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
½ large dinner roll⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What should you do instead? Try other types of gluten-free grains like rice, quinoa, buckwheat and millet. Try adding more veggies to your pasta dishes with a little less noodle.
Listen, this has been hard. Being at home with the Listen, this has been hard. Being at home with the kids while trying to maintain work has been a huge challenge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trying to keep the house clean? Forget it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let go of the mom guilt. It doesn't serve you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're still in survival mode. We're still living a life that is NOT normal. Cut yourself some slack. Give yourself some time-off. What about joining me for a Mom Support Group? You deserve to do something for you, too.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is one of the most heart-wrenching experience This is one of the most heart-wrenching experiences.

Leaving your child, and they are clinging to you with panic, fear, and tears.

I've worked with people of all ages when it comes to anxiety. Children, teens, women, and men.

Your child might have been born on the more anxious side. It could be part of their nature. Or it might be part of your family - a culture of anxiety. Or it might have seemingly come out of nowhere.

Know that there are things we can do for all ages.

Start by loving them and acknowledging how they feel.

Then fill your toolbox with tools for them. I'm here to help you fill that box.

DM me and let’s chat about your child.
Here are 3 questions I get asked most about acupun Here are 3 questions I get asked most about acupuncture. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DOES IT HURT?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- The insertion of the very fine needles you sometimes feel. Once it's in you either feel nothing at all or you feel interesting sensations like "warming," "spreading," "zinging," OR "heaviness." It usually settles down and then you may feel nothing for the rest of the treatment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IS ACUPUNCTURE COVERED UNDER MY BENEFITS?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- At our clinic it is billed as a "naturopathic visit." So if you have naturopathic coverage, then you're covered. If you're not sure, check your paperwork or give your company a quick call.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT HOURS DO YOU OFFER ACUPUNCTURE?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Myself, along with Drs. Sarah and Morgan, all offer acupuncture in our schedules. It's ok if you see one of us then another. We all work together well. Book online for the time that works best for you! We have daytime, evening and every other Saturday hours available.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW DO I GET STARTED?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- You can book online for a 45 minute acupuncture intake. We'll go through your health history, pros and cons and get started with a treatment.
Why do I work with fertility? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the biggest reasons is to help give hope. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Couples are struggling, devastated, and feeling helpless. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want to help give them back control. To help them heal their bodies, become stronger and healthier, and to help them conceive naturally. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The other reason is to help build super babies from the very beginning. There are amazing things we can do when we take care of parents health even before conception. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're struggling, you're not alone. I'm here to help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of the best stories I've heard about our eczem One of the best stories I've heard about our eczema cream is when a grandma was looking after one of my little patients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She was applying the cream to the little one on a regular basis and then noticed the cut on her own hand healed so quickly! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"What is this magical cream?!" she asked.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My patient's mom replied "this cream has literally changed my life."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're struggling with eczema, we can help. We can help it heal while we get the root cause.
